The FCE Writing Paper is one hour and twenty minutes in duration and consists of two parts:
- Part 1: One compulsory task
- Part 2: One task from a choice of three
FCE Writing Paper – Part 1
In this compulsory task, you will be given an essay title and two ideas that are clearly linked to the title. You will need to write an essay where you give your opinion about the title, using the ideas given.
In addition, you must also add a third, different idea. The idea must be your own and be linked to the title. You will not need any specialised knowledge to do this task as the subject will be of general interest.
You will need to write an essay of 140 -190 words in total. To do well in this task, you will need to use language functions such as:
- evaluating
- expressing opinions
- hypothesising
- justifying
- persuading
FCE Writing Paper – Part 2
You will need to choose one task from a choice of there. The tasks can be different text types:
- an article
- a letter/email
- a report
- a review
To do well in this task, you will need to know how to structure and write these different types of text. You will need to write between 140 and 190 words.
