There are four papers on the FCE exam and they are weighted:
- Reading and Use of English Paper: 40%
- Writing Paper: 20%
- Listening Paper: 20%
- Speaking Paper: 20%
The scores you receive on each paper are added together. They are then divided by five (each of the four skills and Use of English). This average score is what you will receive for the FCE exam.
How You Receive Your FCE Results
Once you have sat your FCE exam, you will receive a Statement of Results. It will show your score on the Cambridge English Scale for each of the four skills and the Use of English.
The Statement will also show your overall score for the FCE exam on the Cambridge English Scale. It will also show your grade (A, B, C, Level B1) as well as your overall CEFR level. Here is an example of a Statement of Results:

As you can see, it is easy to see from the Statement how you have performed across the FCE exam.
FCE Results: Receiving a Certificate
If you receive an overall score between 140 and 190, you will receive a certificate. Certificates are awarded with different levels:
- Cambridge English: First – Level C1 (grade A) for 180 – 190 on the Cambridge English Scale
- Cambridge English: First – Level B2 (grade B or C) for 160 – 179 on the Cambridge English Scale
- Level B1 Certificate for 140 – 159 on the Cambridge English Scale
If you receive between 122 and 139 on the Cambridge English Scale, you will not receive a certificate, but your Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on your Statement of Results.
